Microplastics on Human Health

In the stomach and blood, even in the umbilical cord of newborns: micro- and nano-plastics are now everywhere, not just in the environment around us. Pollution and the effects of their presence in the human body are the subject of research by the University of Milan presented Nov. 26 2024 at the Milan Civic Aquarium (Via Gadio 5) in a scientific-disclosure day sponsored by the University with the Presidency of the Milan City Council.

Ricercatori, immunologi, fisici, microbiologi e ingegneri (Claudio Fenizia, Edoardo Puglisi, Alberto Milano, Edoardo Puglisi, Alessandro Daneu, Nicoletta Ancona, Elena Bottinelli, Dalia Benefatto, Carlo Covini, Caterina la Porta, Stefano Zapperi, Elena Buscemi, Domenico Piraina, Chiara Fabi, Nicoletta Ancona, Marina Brambilla), si confronteranno in maniera semplice e comprensibile a tutti sulle più recenti scoperte scientifiche sull’impatto della plastica sulla salute umana.

The cultural project was born with the idea, in my capacity as Expert of Culture Commission and Environment Commission of Municipality 1 in Milan, to shed light on the complicated landscape of plastic materials, to disclose in a simple and informative way the latest scientific findings of the impact on human health, to explore virtuous examples of waste management and viable alternatives in the fields of fashion and architecture.

With the help of Professor Claudio Fenizia (University of Milan), scientific director, a parterre of Italian experts in the fields of physics, biology, fashion, education, waste management, etc., was involved with the aim of deepening the understanding of the controversial world of plastics and conveying these concepts to citizens and policy makers.
