Imago Mundi
The Imago Mundi Foundation pursues a twofold purpose: on the one hand it is dedicated to developing the exhibition aspect by promoting the Imago Mundi Collection through exhibitions, public programs, publications and art commissions, also in collaboration with other institutions while on the other hand it is committed to the dissemination and popularization of contemporary visual art and its languages in an experimental and international context.
The Imago Mundi Collection, born in 2006 from an idea of Luciano Benetton, has brought together to date 26,000 works from more than 150 nations and native communities collected in 160 publications, accomplishing a global mapping that tells, through art, the expressive diversity of human cultures to form an inclusive and democratic creative community. Curators for each specific nation in the world are assigned to compile these publications, with whom I have traveled to different continents to coordinate and evaluate the diverse content of the volumes from the Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia and Fijii.
The Dutch publication was dedicated to the always “gezellig ”smile of my mom Justine Van Kleef.
