NVK Design
Now home to the activity of the architecture firm NVK Desgin inside a historic building designed in 1910 by architect Paolo Mezzanotte (the same as the Milan Stock Exchange known as Palazzo Mezzanotte), the space has been transformed into lofts in which various activities are carried out. Pillars of stone material welcome visitors to the main courtyard on whose walls stand out the original decorations from the early 20th century. A tall iron and glass door closed by a wooden door characterizes the entrance to the office on the ground floor originally used for storing horse carriages with double-height ceilings to allow the gigs to be lifted for maintenance.
In the renovation, vintage lamps, antique and ethnic furniture and design objects were selected with the inclusion of different lighting systems to create ever-changing lighting scenes. A balustrade consisting of a wire cloth weaving illuminated by a wall washer light source on which a video is placed to show the architecture and design projects serve as a boundary to the area destined for the kitchen and bathroom rooms that overlook a second inner courtyard. Some galvanized iron bookcases built with scaffolding shelves house volumes of scientific and architectural literature and some antique books.
The basement floor consisting of an original barrel-vaulted structure, consolidated with resin injections, is connected by a salvaged spiral staircase, and houses the display of fashion design and innovative design collections amidst modern antique furniture and Dutch-style painted boards.
