Saturno

It is called “Saturn” and is a device for inactivating pathogens through the use of UV-C lamps and fans, designed for indoor environments from schools to public and private offices. As part of a collaboration contract that was created with the team of INAF National Institute of Astrophysics - https://www.inaf.it/it - “Saturn” was conceived, a system for disinfection of public and private environments based on the combination of natural inactivation technology and functional design that does not neglect the aesthetic result.

“Saturn” was conceived, designed and built with a prototype now kept at the Brera Astronomical Museum in the Brera Palace in Milan. The name “Saturn” recalls the shape of the designed system, in a spherical configuration but with a protective ring, and also recalls the work carried out by INAF.

The system was designed to be able to sanitize, through the exchange of clean air, indoors, when it is difficult or inconvenient to bring in air from outside (for example, in the winter months, when opening windows would lead to a decrease in room temperature or in highly polluted outdoor environments). “Saturn” was therefore designed as a device to be used completely indoors, without external air exchange. The system takes existing air in the room, subjecting it to a sanitizing treatment when it forcibly passes through the area illuminated by UV-C fluorescent lamps. The sanitized air is then continuously fed back into the room itself via a cone on the top of the device.
