Design

Respect for environmental sustainability and well-being is the guiding motif of the conduct of NVK's entire business. From architecture to design, the brand's field of choice, to fashion.
Awareness of the need to operate according to the principle of sustainability in order to be able to guarantee a livable world for future generations - albeit within the limits of the “profession” of an architect - led to the formulation of a code of rules for design written with architects Marco Tronci, Laura Maria Vignati and others, collected in the Slowdesign Manifesto, published the text in Interni in 2002. Slowdesign promotes the coming together of local consumption and production, favoring the use of local raw materials and labor during all stages of a product's manufacture. The fight against waste and the containment of pollutants, especially CO2, takes place through a plurality of concepts to be kept in mind when exercising the design profession, in particular the Manifesto's cornerstones are:

  • Disegnare oggetti utili, limitando quindi la produzione di materia legata alla creazione di gadget fini a sé stessi;
  • Designing objects that induce “green” behaviors, that is, objects that allow, for example, people to use and conserve the warmth of their bodies to achieve an immediate beneficial effect and avoid wasting energy due to the increased temperature of heating systems;
  • Design objects that are durable and intended to be inherited by future generations, for example, designed to be containers of a plurality of functions, so as to dilute over time the CO2 that was emitted to produce it;
  • Ensure traceability of the product from raw material to final object in order to be able to verify and control the emissions of pollutants it produces during all stages of its processing;
  • Choose local raw material and local labor to avoid pollution from transportation;
  • Choose “poor” materials, i.e., those that require few processing steps to be finished and therefore very often cheaper.
